Great for beginners!

Our mind is like the sky—vast, clear, and peaceful by nature. But just as the sky can be temporarily obscured by clouds or storms, our mind can be overshadowed by problems, anxiety, or emotional turbulence. This course will guide us to gently uncover the natural clarity and stillness that already exists within.

In this retreat, you will be introduced to three guided meditations:

Step back from distractions and focus inward, laying the foundation for more profound meditation.

Discovering the Clarity of Your Mind
Explore the natural clarity of your mind, uncovering its boundless and peaceful potential.

Meditating on the Root Mind

About the teacher

Lowanna Mobley has been a longtime student of our Foundation Program (FP), and serves as our center’s Education Program Coordinator. She is known for her enthusiasm and loving nature, bringing humor and genuine insight to her teaching.

Every day we remember the extraordinary kindness of Venerable Geshe-la, our root Guru and Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition.

But on the auspicious day of June 4, which is both Turning the Wheel of Dharma day and Venerable Geshe-la’s birthday, at Kadampa centers around the world, with minds of rejoicing and gratitude, we offer him our faith through using the special prayer Request to the Holy Spiritual Guide Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso from his Faithful Disciples and collecting our Guru’s name mantra in a one-day retreat.

There will be three sessions of self-guided retreat using the sadhana, The Hundreds of Deities of the Joyful Land According to Highest Yoga Tantra and the special request prayer. In the evening, the retreat will conclude with Offering to the Spiritual Guide.

About the teacher

Gen Kelsang Dorje is the resident teacher at the Kadampa Meditation Center Madison. As the resident teacher Gen Dorje is responsible for teaching and leading meditation classes, retreats, and workshops at the center and in branch locations. He has received extensive training under the guidance of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the founder of the New Kadampa Tradition. Gen Dorje is known for his warmth and humor in making Buddha’s teachings relevant to our modern life. He is an inspiring example of how to integrate these teachings into a joyful life and is committed to helping people improve their daily lives through meditation and mindfulness.

How to Understand the Mind – Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Join us for this special weekend event with visiting Teacher Gen Kelsang Khedrub who was one of the original teachers here at Kadampa Meditation Center Madison. 

We will explore methods of how to develop profound inner peace and generate mental and physical suppleness that arises from concentration. This state is not about forced effort, but a calm, joyful, and stable mind that removes distractions, resulting in lasting happiness. 

About the teacher

Guest Teacher Gen Kelsang Khedrub is Resident Teacher of Kadampa Meditation Center Boston. He has been studying and practicing Kadampa Buddhism under the guidance of Ven. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for over 30 years.

Gen Khedrub previously served as a Resident Teacher in Chicago and in Seattle, and over the years he has taught special events and led meditation retreats around the country. His heartfelt teachings are presented with clarity and humor that make them accessible to everyone.
